Schofield’s Flowers Spirits Co.

In 1896, William “Big Bill” Schofield opened Schofield’s Flowers on North State Street in Chicago, directly across from the Holy Name Cathedral. For more than six decades, the shop thrived, becoming a local landmark until relocating in 1960 and ultimately closing in 1976.

In 1921, the shop’s history took a dramatic turn when North Side Gang boss and bootlegger Dean O’Banion became a business partner. The partnership was abruptly cut short in 1924 when O’Banion was violently gunned down inside the shop by three members of Al Capone’s South Side Outfit. O’Banion’s murder became a catalyst in an escalating power struggle between two rival gangs during Chicago’s Prohibition-era.

More than a century after his grandfather first opened the shop’s doors, Steve “Scof” Schofield, revived the family business name in 2017. Building on this storied past, he reimagined Schofield’s Flowers as a distinctive experiential advertising and film production brand.

Today, this compelling history is being revived again under Schofield’s Flowers Spirits Co., merging the elegance of floral artistry with the grit and intrigue of Chicago’s underworld. Drawing inspiration from the audacious spirit of the Prohibition-era, the brand aims to bridge a captivating past with a bold future in the competitive craft bourbon market, appealing to both history enthusiasts and modern connoisseurs alike.
